The Southern Pearly-Eye has dark eyespots near the margins of its forewings and hind wings. It is found primarily in the southeastern region of the United States, with its range extending west to the eastern edge of Texas. It is distinguished from the Northern Pearly-eye and the female Creole Pearly-eye by the orange antenna clubs.
